Salisbury's Late Surge Lifts #8 Gulls over Spartans

Salisbury scored six runs in their final two at-bats to blow open close game

SALISBURY, MD – The defending national champion Salisbury University Sea Gulls turned a one run game into a 9-1 win with six runs in the final two innings for the win in the second round of the SU Sea Gulls Classic on Saturday.
The Spartans trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth and Salisbury got one in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth to break the game open.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the second as Joe Capobianco singled to right to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on an Andrew Santarpia fly out to right. Capobianco then scored on a Davaughn Reid ground out to short.
• The Sea Gulls answered in the bottom of the second as Dom Frigiola drew a one out walk. He came around to score when Scott Cameron homered to right center to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
• The Spartan offense had trouble getting any traction as junior lefty Jackson Balzan was dealing for the Gulls. After the Spartan scored, York was limited to just two hits over the next four innings. Salisbury added to the lead in the sixth as Stephen Rice doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Rice moved to third on a ground out to second and scored on a Ben Anderson sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-1.
• The Sea Gulls struck for three runs in the bottom of the seventh as Rice had a two run single with one out. The Gulls would execute a double steal that would result in a third run in the inning.
• The Gulls put the game away with three runs on zero hits and an error in the eighth. Just one of the three runs were earned. York pitchers walked four in the inning to fuel the outburst.
