#5 York Whips Previously Unbeaten #8 Dips, 18-7

10 different Spartans scored led by Will Harnick's career-high tying six goals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 5 York men's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-7 victory over No. 8 Franklin & Marshall Friday night on day one of the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson.

York came after the Diplomats early and often with three unanswered goals in the first seven minutes of play and carried a 9-3 lead into halftime. After F&M scored a pair back-to-back midway through the third quarter to cut the deficit to five, it was all York from there as the Spartans out-scored the dips 8-2 the rest of the way.

A total of 10 different Spartans tallied a goal on the night led by Will Harnick's career-high tying six-goal performance. Vinny Facciponti had another stellar performance at the face-off X as he went 15-for-26. Ryan Kennedy led all players with a career-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Jack Michael backstopped the Spartan defense with 10 saves in net.

How It Happened
York had the jump on F&M early as Dylan Wolf buried a shot from the point 49 seconds into the contest on the game's opening possession. Jarrod Marenger and Will Harnick added two more for York just before the midway point of the first quarter as the Spartans owned a 4-1 advantage at the end of one.

The second quarter saw more of the same as Harnick buried two in the first four minutes as the York lead swelled to five (6-1). Out of a F&M timeout, the Dips ripped off back-to-back goals to cut the deficit in half. F&M would win the ensuing face-off, but Zach Mentzer stripped A.J. Rigsby at midfield and fired a cross-field pass to a streaking Harnick who finished on the fast break. York would end the quarter on a three–goal run, punctuated by a Ryan Kennedy goal on a Spartan restart, as the Spartans took a 9-3 lead into halftime.

The Diplomats started to gain some traction as they scored on back-to-back possessions midway through the third quarter, including one on the man-advantage, as they cut the deficit to 10-5 with 7:38 left. F&M won the next face-off, but each of their next three shots were all turned away by Jack Michael, including two with Dips on another man-advantage, with 6:03 left. Michael's saves helped turn the tide back in York's favor as the Spartans ended the quarter on a three-goal run. Michael made a staggering eight saves in the third quarter alone, including three with the Spartans playing a man down, as York took a trio of penalties in the period.

Eben Ordakowski, Ames Clark and Jack Grayson all added their names to the score sheet in the fourth quarter as the Spartans routed the Dips, 5-2, in the final period. F&M coughed up possession seven times in the final quarter as York made it hurt by winning the ground ball battle, 11-7, down the stretch.

The Spartans return to Mustang Stadium tomorrow to face Bates at 3:30 p.m.

Notes
York improves to 4-1 all-time against the Diplomats and currently own a four-game win streak in the series … the Spartans spoiled F&M's previously unblemished record (6-0) to start the season and each of F&M's last two losses have to come to York as the Spartans eliminated the Dips from the NCAA postseason last year … York's 18 goals are the most goals scored against a top-10 team and second-most scored against a ranked opponent in program history (record: 20-7 win over #19 Stevenson in 2018) … the Spartans held an F&M offense to its lowest goal total of the season by far as the Diplomats entered Friday night's contest averaging 16.17 goals per game on the season … Will Harnick established a new career-high with eight points on his second-six goal performance of the season … Jack Michael posted his fourth-straight double-digit save performance of the season with 10 on the night.
