YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday as Widener roared past the Spartans 76-54 in MAC Commonwealth play at Wolf Gymnasium. The Spartans now fall into a second-place tie with the Pride as both teams are 10-3 in the Commonwealth, two games back of Messiah in the league standings. The win is Widener's sixth straight as the Pride is the second hottest team in the league behind Messiah's 12 game win streak.

How It Happened
• The game was back and forth early as there were three ties and eight lead changes. The final lead change came on a Mikayla Nicolini jumper that put the Pride up 14-13 with 2:58 left in the first quarter. That kick started an 11-0 run that gave the Pride a 23-13 lead at the end of one.
• Widner kept rolling in the second quarter as they quickly pushed the lead to 13. York trimmed the lead to eight on a Kayla Ferris lay up with 5:45 left in the quarter. However, the Pride responded with a 13-2 run over the final five minutes of the half to take a 41-22 lead to the half.
• The Spartans had their best quarter in the third as they tallied 19 points. Unfortunately for York, Widener tallied 20 as they grew their lead to 20 at 61-41.
• The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Pride outscored York 15-13 as York was unable to mount any challenge to the big Widener lead.

The Pride was scorching from the floor as they shot 47.5% from the field including 50% in the first half while the Spartans shot 40.7% from the floor … Widener made nine three pointers to just five for the Spartans … York went to the line just four times and was 1-for-4 (25%) from the stripe … the four free throws are their lowest attempts for the year while the one make is also the lowest … York won the battle on the glass 38-34 … the Spartans committed 15 turnovers which led to 15 Widener points while Widener's seven turnovers led to just four points for York … both teams registered 26 points in the paint … the Pride led in second chance points 17-10 … Nicole Barnes recorded a career-high 27 points for the Pride, that's the most points allowed to an individual player this year.

The Spartans are now 1-2 all-time against the Pride as the two teams split the regular season series with the road team winning each match up … the Spartans have lost their last two home games to Messiah and Widener by a combined 47 points … York is 7-4 at home but a perfect 8-0 on the road … Senior Kayla Ferris continues to close in on 1,000 career points as she now has 976 points in her 101 career games … Ferris' 18 points are the most for her since January 15 when she dropped 19 on Eastern … junior Bradi Zumbrum reached double figures for the 10^th time this year.
