Three Spartans Punch Tickets to Nationals as York Finishes Fifth at Regionals

Five wrestlers land on the Regional podium including two champions

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Five Spartans earned spots on the podium, including two champions, as York wrestling finished 5th out of 20 teams at the conclusion of the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday at Lycoming College.

Additionally, Dalton Rohrbaugh (1st - 133), Eric Hutchinson (3rd - 157) and Camden Farrow (1st - 197) will all be moving on to the NCAA National Championships in two weeks after each clinched a berth from placing in the top-three in their respective weight classes.

No. 10 Stevens won the team title with 160.5 points, followed by Alvernia (151.0), No. 22 Averett (127.0), Washington & Lee (103.5) and No. 24 York (97.0).

National Qualifiers
133: No. 3 Dalton Rohrbaugh (22-0) rolled all the way from the top seed to the title.

He squared off against Luke Kowalski (Gettysburg) in the semifinals and after an even first period, rode out Kowalski in the second. Rohrbaugh reversed from bottom early in the third and held off Kowalski the rest of the way to advance to the title bout and earn his spot at Nationals on a 7-4 victory.

Rohrbaugh clinched the title with a narrow 3-2 victory over Josh Wilson (Greensboro). The Spartan scored the only takedown of the bout 1:34 into the first period and owned a 2-1 lead after the first three minutes. Wilson evened up the score with an escape six seconds into the second. Wilson performed well on top to start the third, but Rohrbaugh managed to escape from bottom and score the eventual winning point with 58 seconds left.

157: No. 11 Eric Hutchinson (21-6) suffered a semifinal round setback to start the day and took the long road back to earn his third-career berth to Nationals.

No. 10 Ryan Luth (W&L) got the better of Hutchinson, 5-2, in the semifinal round to force the Spartan into the consolation bracket. The Spartan veteran responded in a big way with a fall (5:37) over Ferrum's Christian Hite. Hutchinson drew a rematch with No. 12 Hunter Gutierrez (Stevens) who he faced just two weeks ago. The outcome was the same as before, but by a wider margin as Hutchinson scored five takedowns on his way to a 12-4 victory.

197: Camden Farrow (30-5) went from the bracket's No. 2 seed to champion to earn his first-career berth to Nationals.

Farrow squared off against Gable Crebs (Lycoming) in the semifinal round, which marked the third meeting between these two wrestlers this season. Things looked bleak as Crebs took an 8-4 lead after two periods, but Farrow was primed for a big comeback. The Spartan senior got some momentum started as he reversed Crebs from bottom six seconds into the third and then scored a takedown with 33 seconds left as he trailed by two. With little time left, Farrow stuck with his offense and scored the tying takedown with just 18 seconds left and then turned Crebs for four swipes to pull off the miraculous 14-10 comeback win in regulation.

Farrow found himself in another nail-biter in the finals against Mauro Pellot (Alvernia). Farrow jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one period, but Pellot fought back to cut the deficit to three after the second period. Pellot scored a takedown with 32 seconds left as he trailed by one, so he had to cut Farrow lose, but the Spartan never went down again as he won the title on a 9-7 decision.

More Place Winners
125: Jared Kuhns (25-10) began his day in the consolation quarterfinals and ripped off two-straight wins to put himself in the third-place bout and a chance to head to nationals. Kuhns fell behind, 4-0, to Riley Parker (W&L), but got on the board with a pair of escapes in the second as he trailed 6-2. Parker went on to shutout Kuhns the rest of the way as the Spartan senior finished one win away from Nationals for the second time in his career.

149: Jared Bair (29-9) began his day with a narrow 5-4 loss to Jarrod Pominville (Roanoke) in the consolation quarterfinals, which knocked him out of national qualifier position. The Spartan sophomore managed to rally back and finish the season on a winning note with a 5-2 victory over Logan Bartlett (Lycoming) to capture seventh place.
