The Dutchmen break a 47-47 tie with a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining in the fourth

YORK, Pa. - A pair of final second free throws ultimately made the difference in a 49-47 conference home loss for the York women's basketball team to Lebanon Valley on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
  • The Dutchmen dominated the first quarter as they roared out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first period of play. LVC started the game 8-for-10 from the field to roll out an 18-4 lead, but came back to earth as they finished the period shooting 9-for-17 with a 3-for-6 effort from three-point range. York struggled to keep pace with a just a 26.7% performance and coughed the ball up five times in the first 10 minutes of play.
  • The Spartans flipped the script in the second quarter as they out-scored LVC, 13-7, to pull within seven heading into halftime. Tori Geitner and Savannah Wilson fueled the comeback as the two combined for 11 of York's 13 points in the period with a combined 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc.

Bradi Zumbrum led all players with nine third-quarter points which scored all of in the final five minutes.
  • York continued to reel the Dutchmen back in as the fourth quarter unfolded due in large part to an 0-for-8 shooting performance from the floor by LVC in the fourth as York would end up owning a 9-4 scoring margin the period. The Spartans used a 9-2 run to pull even with LVC, 47-47, with 2:44 left which marked the game's only tie. The two teams would combine to shoot 0-for-5 the rest of the way, setting up the deciding moment with six seconds left. The Spartans were charged with consecutive fouls prior to an LVC inbound attempt, with the second foul pushing the Spartans over the limit and awarding the Dutchmen a free-throw opportunity. The opportunity was seized by LVC's Riley Hevelow who sunk both her shots in the closing seconds to seal the win in front of a befuddled Spartan crowd.
