YORK, Pa. - The York women's basketball team dropped their second-straight MAC Commonwealth home game in a 72-54 defeat against Alvernia on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans opened up an 8-5 advantage through the first 4:16 of play, but would end up shooting 0-for-7 with three turnovers on their final 10 possessions of the first quarter. Alvernia ended the opening quarter on a 10-0 run on a 4-for-6 performance from the field to take a 15-8 lead into the first quarter break.
  • York broke the scoring drought 41 seconds into the second quarter on a Brookly Naylor layup which started a run of six unanswered points capped off by a Taylor Burda three-pointer to cut the Spartan deficit to four (18-14). Alvernia quickly recovered and rushed out to a 10-point lead with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes and change. The two teams swapped points the rest of the quarter with York holding a slight 11-10 edge through the final five minutes, but the Golden Wolves maintained a safe 36-27 lead heading into halftime.
  • York started the third quarter 0-for-6 from the field while Alvernia piled up a 14-2 run through the first 5:15 of the quarter with a pair of Savannah Wilson free throws accounting for the only Spartan points during that span. A Bradi Zumbrum three-pointer ended the AU run and she led a 7-2 Spartan run over the next 54 seconds to cut the Alvernia lead down to 52-36 with 3:51 left in the third. The Spartans managed to score just one more field goal the rest of the quarter, but 2-for-2 from the free throw line as the Golden Wolves held a 58-40 lead at the end of three quarters of play.
  • Alvernia increased their lead to 20 within the first minute of fourth and reached as high as 27 points with 3:05 left to play. York went on to hold the Golden Wolves scoreless through the final three minutes of the game as the Spartans scored nine unanswered, led by Zumbrum's six points on a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line.
