Balanced Efforts Powers Spartans to First MAC Commonwealth Win

The Spartans place three players in double figures in the road win at Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College women's basketball team picked up their first MAC Commonwealth win of the year as they downed Eastern 67-59 on Saturday afternoon in St. David's, PA. The Spartans raced out to an early advantage and never trailed in the game as they leveled their conference mark at 1-1.
The Spartans are now 3-4 overall while the Eagles are 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Spartans led 6-5 just over five minutes into the game thanks to a pair of Bradi Zumbrum buckets. Senior Tori Geitner drilled a three to kick start an 11-2 Spartan run that gave York a 17-7 lead. York would settle for a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• York saw their lead dwindle to five at 21-16 but the Spartans went on an 11-0 run to take a 32-16 lead. The run was fueled by three pointers from Taylor Burda, Geitner, and
Alyssa Hocker. The Eagles bounced by to finish the quarter with a 7-0 run as York took a 32-23 lead to the break.
• York began the third quarter with an 8-3 run to push out to a 14-point lead 3:20 into the period. The Eagles slowly trimmed the York lead to seven at 45-38 at the end of the quarter.
• Eastern hit the opening bucket of the fourth quarter to cut York's lead to 45-40. Burda buried a triple followed by back-to-back lay ups from Zumbrum as York quickly pushed the lead back to 12. The Eagles were able to cut the Spartan lead to seven on five occasions but that's as close as they would get as York earned their first league win of the year.
