Zumbrum's Double-Double Fuels Runaway Win Over LBC

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan women's basketball team earned their second-straight win on a 63-45 runaway victory over Lancaster Bible on Tuesday night at Wolf Gym.

The Spartans handed the Chargers their first loss of the season as LBC scored a season-low and York established a new season-high for points. Bradi Zumbrum led all players in points (22) and rebounds (14) in her first double-double performance of the season.

How It Happened
  • After surrendering the first point of the contest on an Alaysha Iwais free throw, the Spartans went on a 14-5 run to take an eight-point lead with 3:52 left in the first quarter, which ended up being their largest advantage of the first half. Bradi Zumbrum led the way with seven points and Brooklyn Naylor poured in four as York shot 50% from the floor during that span. The Chargers closed the gap with a 7-2 run to end the quarter led by Shelby Gard's five point-effort as the Spartans owned a 16-13 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • LBC had a slight upper hand in the first three minutes of the second quarter as a 9-4 run on a 3-for-6 shooting effort put the Chargers out front, 22-20. After starting the quarter 2-for-4 from the floor, the Spartans made five of their next eight and added a pair of free throws to edge out a 30-29 lead which they took into the halftime break. Zumbrum led all players with 15 first-half points on a 6-for-10 performance from the floor.
  • York scored the first eight points of the third quarter as they opened the period on a commanding 17-4 run to jump out to a 47-33 lead. Zumbrum (7) and Carey Smith (5) combined for 12 of York's points on that run while the Spartans limited the Chargers to a 2-for-12 effort from the floor during that span. LBC finished the quarter shooting 3-for-15 (0-for-4 from three), but managed to slip in four points in the final 49 seconds which matched their total from the first nine minutes of the period as York took a 51-37 lead into the fourth.
  • The Spartans closed out the game utilizing a massive 17-6 advantage on the glass in the fourth quarter while neither team shot above 27% in the final period. Zumbrum and Alyssa Hocker hauled in five rebounds each in the final 10 minutes as Hocker and Savannah Wilson paced the offense with four points each as York pulled away to the 63-45 win.

The Spartans open conference play next Wednesday with a trip to No. 21 Messiah. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.

The Spartans improve to 4-0 all-time against the Chargers since the series began in 2018-19 … Bradi Zumbrum posted her third-career double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds as she has now eclipsed the 20-point mark in three out of five games this season … Brooklyn Naylor recorded a career-high in points (6) and Alyssa Hocker established a new career-best for rebounds (7) on the night, while freshman Carey Smith scored a season-high seven points to lead all players off the bench … LBC's top player, Jade Eshelman, was held well below her season averages with 11 points and nine rebounds as she entered the night averaging 21.5 points and 14.5 rebounds … Sydney Heller (18.5) and Adalyn Steiner averaged (12.0) were also held below their scoring averages with just three and five points, respectively … LBC was also out-rebounded by 13 (47-34) on the night after entering the game with a +28 margin in the rebound department.
