YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team put together their best defensive effort of the year as they earned their first win of the year, a 55-47 victory over McDaniel College on Wednesday night in York.
The Spartans improve to 1-3 with the win while the Green Terror fall to 1-3 overall.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a good start, racing out to a 10-2 lead just over five minutes into the game. The run was keyed by a trio of three pointers from
Savannah Wilson,
Bradi Zumbrum, and
Alyssa Hocker. The Green Terror trimmed the Spartan lead to six at 16-10 heading to the second quarter.
• York started the second quarter by pushing the lead to 12 (22-10) on two three pointers from Wilson. The Spartan lead vacillated between 10 and 12 points before the Green Terror trimmed the lead to seven at 26-19. Wilson nailed a pair free throws to give York a 28-19 halftime lead.
• The third quarter lacked scoring punch on both sides as the Spartans outscored McDaniel 10-7. The Spartan lead grew to a game-high 13 on a Zumbrum three-point play with 6:06 left in the quarter. York would settle for a 38-26 lead at the end of the third.
• The fourth quarter was the most offensive period of the game. The Spartan lead was 11 on three different occasions, the last coming on a Zumbrum lay-up with 2:59 left. The Green Terror scored the next four points, cutting York's lead to seven. They would shave the lead to six on a three pointer from Elaina Beckett but that's as close as they would get. Wilson hit two free throws with 29 seconds left to provide for the final points of the game.
