Field Hockey Bounces Back with 3-0 Road Win

The Spartans have won four of their last five games

DALLAS, PA – The York College field hockey squad got back on the winning side of the ledger as they blanked Misericordia 3-0 in a non-conference contest on Saturday in Dallas, PA.
The Spartans scored one goal in the second quarter and finished off the win with a pair of fourth quarter goals.
The #15 Spartans are now 9-3 overall while the Cougars fall to 4-7.

How It Happened
• The first quarter was lacking in offensive opportunities for both teams. The Spartans held a 2-0 edge in shots, a 1-0 margin in shots on goal while they also had a pair of corners. However, neither of their chances were dangerous as the game remained scoreless through the opening 15 minutes of play.
• The Spartan offense kicked it into gear in the second quarter as they dominated the period. After Riley Buschert put a shot on frame, the Cougars went down and got their lone corner and shot of the period. York roared right back down the field to earn a penalty corner. The Spartans then had a series of three shots. Hannah Huffman fired off the first shot off the corner which was blocked. Connie Harburda collected the rebound and her shot was saved. The ball caromed right to Katie Martino who finished off the rebound for the goal in the game's 24th minute. York finished the quarter with a 6-1 margin in shots. Cougar goalie Sarah Bogina kept Misericordia in the game with four second quarter saves.
• The Spartans continued to pressure the Cougars defense in the third but didn't have much to show for it. They out shot their hosts 5-0 while they had a 2-0 margin in corners. However, only one of the Spartans' five shots were on goal.
• The Green and White put the game away in the fourth on a pair of similar goals. The Spartans' second goal of the game came on another penalty corner. Huffman had her first shot blocked but she collected the rebound and sent a pass to Martino and the junior poked the ball into the back of the cage for the 2-0 lead in the game's 51st minute. York's third goal came less than a minute later as Buschert fired a shot that was saved by Bogina. The ball settled on the stick of Harburda who sent a pass to freshman Kat Knox. Knox finished the chance for her ninth goal of the year.
• The Spartans finished the game out shooting the Cougars 23-2 including 13-0 in shots on goal. York also held a 7-2 margin in penalty corners for the match. Bogina was outstanding in goal for the Cougars as she recorded ten saves.
