Spartans Capitalize on Corners to Take Down Hood

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team netted a pair of goals five minutes apart midway through a 2-0 victory over Hood on Wednesday night at Graham Field.

Sabrina McGuigan assisted on both goals as the Spartans executed on their corner set pieces for both tallies.

Team Records
Hood 5-7-4 (3-3-1 MACC)
York 10-3-4 (5-0-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • York had a good look in the 34th minute, but the Hood back line was up to the task to deny the Spartans. Julianna Schilling crossed a pass from right to left as Hood goalkeeper Brenna Ellenberger was out her net trying to make a play on the ball. Rori Englert received Schilling's in the air and headed it towards the goal, but the Blazer defenders were spread out on the goal line and Sara Frensley was there to stop the shot.
  • Spartan keeper Jacqueline Keogh tested twice in the 38th minute. She made a great diving save on a curling shot by Caroline Roberts that faded from the right to left. She then came up with a great play on a Blazer corner set piece where she read the tailing entrance pass and punched it out to safety.
  • York broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute on their first corner kick of the game. Sabrina McGuigan swung the ball in from the right corner and found Bailey Bennett rising out of the crowd who headed into the net for her first-career goal.
  • The Spartans capitalized again on a corner set piece in the 49th minute. McGuigan sent a pass in from the left corner to Erin Snyder on the back side who headed the ball towards the left post. Ashlynn Weger came slicing in through traffic and knocked it in for fourth goal of the season.

Up Next
The Spartans close out the regular season Saturday with a conference tilt against Lebanon Valley which will determine the order of two of the top three seeds of the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship.
