Buschert's Big Night Powers Spartans' 7-0 Win

Spartans earn their 12th overall shutout and their fourth straight win

YORK, PA – The #15 York College field hockey squad closed out their regular season home schedule in impressive fashion as they blanked Stevenson University in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday night in York.
The win pushes the current Spartan win streak to four as the Green and White has outscored those four opponents by a combined total of 22-0. The shutout adds to the school record which now stands at 12 in 17 games played for the year.
York is now 13-4 overall and 7-1 in the Commonwealth. Stevenson falls to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Spartans seized control of the game early as they scored on their second penalty corner of the night. Riley Buschert inserted the corner to Sara Pique the top of the circle. Pique calmly fired in a pass back to Buschert who finished off the chance for the 1-0 lead just 5:07 into the game.
• The York offense blew up in the second quarter with three goals to put the game out of reach. York's second goal came off another corner as Buschert fed a pass to Hannah Huffman who blistered a shot from the wing for the 2-0 lead 3:28 into the quarter. Buschert and Pique teamed up again for York's third goal, again on a penalty corner. Buschert pushed a pass to Pique who found Buschert on the return pass for the 3-0 lead. York got their third goal of the period when Lindsey Cowan finished off a penalty stroke 1:43 before the half.
• York out shot Stevenson 9-0 in the first half while they also held a 7-0 bulge in penalty corners.
• The Spartans continued to pressure the Mustangs in the third quarter. York struck for the only goal of the quarter as Huffman found Katie Martino 4:03 into the second half for Martino's team-leading 16th goal of the year. The Spartans would go on to out shoot the Mustangs 10-1 in the quarter but goalie Jamie Fritz made four saves in goal for Stevenson to keep the deficit at five.
• The Green and White closed out the scoring with a pair of fourth quarter goals. The first goal of the quarter came 2:45 into the period as Buschert tallied her third goal off a pass from Martino after Reese Hardman had her initial shot saved. Martino captured the loose ball and popped a perfect pass to Buschert who finished the chance. The second goal came from Carrie Shuey who finished off an insert pass from Buschert on a penalty corner with 4:49 left in regulation. Shuey hit a rocket shot from the wing that found the back of the cage.
• York finished the match out shooting their guests 26-2 including 17-1 in shots on goal. The Spartans also had a 16-2 bulge in penalty corners.
