Field Hockey Ends the Regular Season with their 14th Win

Spartans extend their win streak and shutout streak to five

MADISON, NJ – The #15 York College Spartan field hockey team closed out their regular season with a 2-0 win at FDU-Florham on Saturday in Madison, New Jersey.
The win is the fifth straight for the Spartans as they conclude the regular season with a mark of 14-4. The Devils finish their regular season with a record of 9-9.
The five victories on the win streak have all come via the shutout as York now has a school-record 13 clean sheets for the season.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as York earned a corner just 2:22 into the game. On the corner, Riley Buschert inserted the initial pass to Sara Pique at the top of the circle. Pique settled the ball and fired a pass to Katie Martino who finished the chance for the 1-0 lead. The goal is Martino's team-leading 17th of the campaign.
• York increased the lead just under five minutes later as the Spartans drew another corner. The play was nearly the same as Buschert inserted to Pique who found Maycee Collison in front of the goal. Collison finished off the play with her fifth goal of the year. York ended the first quarter holding a 7-0 bulge in shots.
• The second quarter was more evenly played as both teams had four shots in the period. York goalie Belle Fields made four saves to preserve the Spartan lead.
• The final half of play saw the Spartans have opportunities in each quarter but the Devils held York off the scoreboard in the final 30 minutes of the match. York out shot Florham 9-0 in the second half while they also had a 5-0 bulge in penalty corners. Fields made four saves for the Spartans in the win.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans are now 1-1 all-time against FDU-Florham … the last time the two programs met was September 3, 2006 in Owings Mills at the Villa Julie (Stevenson) season opening tournament when Florham posted a 1-0 win … the Spartans have allowed eight goals for the year, two less than the school record of 10 set in 1976 and matched in 1990 … York now has 13 shutouts in 18 games as they lead the MAC Commonwealth in fewest goals allowed … junior Katie Martino is now tied for seventh on the all-time single season list for goals with 17 … Michele Gladfelter holds the single season record of 22 set in 1987 … Martino's 37 points for the year are just out of the top eight for single season play … York has allowed just 11 total shots over the course of their five match win streak and just six of those shots have come on goal … York has outscored their last five opponents 24-0.
