FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's volleyball squad snapped a four-match losing streak as the Spartans downed Hood College 3-1 in MAC Commonwealth play on Tuesday in Fredrick, Maryland.
The Spartans won the match by the score of 25-16, 18-25, 25-9, and 25-12. The Spartans improve to 11-13 overall and are now 3-4 in the league. Hood falls to 6-17 overall and 1-6 in the league.
 
How It Happened
• The first set was tied twice in the early stages of the game. The set was tied at four when the Spartans started to slowly pull away. York eventually pushed the lead to eight at 20-12 before the Blazers scored three of the next four points to pull to within six at 21-15. The Spartans closed out the set by winning four of the next five points including a pair of Claire Shorb kills to take set one 25-16.
• The second set was again back and forth early on as there were six ties in the opening 12 points. The Blazers ripped off a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Spartans battled back to tie the set at 12, at 13, and again at 14. Hood scored four straight to take an 18-14 lead. York cut the Blazer lead to two but Hood finished off the set with a 25-18 win.
• The third set saw the Spartans jump out to an early 4-1 lead. York's lead stood at 6-3 when the Green and White ripped off a 16-5 run that pushed the lead to 22-8. The Spartans closed out the set for a 25-9 victory.
• The fourth set was tied at six early. The Spartans went on a 12-0 run to take the 18-6 lead. The Blazers didn't get closer than ten the rest of the set as York cruised to the 25-12 win to close out the match.

The Spartans are now 24-0 all-time against the Blazers … York dropped a set against Hood for just the second time in the last ten meetings … junior Megan Rizzi had another big night as she had 16 kills and hit .406 for the match … Briyana Shepard also had double figures in kills with 10 kills as she hit .348 … Abby Diehl handed out 36 assists with three aces, four kills, and ten digs … Megan Wolf led the defensive effort with 19 digs while she also had two service aces … Alyssa Mott had a team-high six service aces … York hit .271 for the match, their fourth highest total of the year … the Spartans had 14 service aces in the win, their second highest total of the year … York had just 15 attack errors, their third lowest total of the season … York won for just the second time in ten matches with the win.
