YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team kept their MAC Commonwealth postseason hopes alive with a 6-0 drubbing of Hood Tuesday night at Graham Field.

York 8-5-3 (3-3-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • York had the jump on Hood early as the Spartans compiled a 4-0 advantage in both shots and corners through the first 20 minutes of play. Luke Nall had the lone shot on goal during that span with a quality strike from nearly 30 yards out that was met with a stellar diving save by Nick Humphries.
  • The Spartan pressure eventually paid off in the form of a Nall goal in the 32nd minute. Noah Roche started the play as he drew a defender and was tackled just inside the 18-yard line. Nall was quick to pounce on the loose ball and whizzed a shot past Humphries for the game's first tally.
  • Ryan McElwain extended the Spartan lead to 2-0 just before the end of the first half. McElwain stepped in front of a Hood defender to intercept a pass 16 yards out from the goal on a Blazer clearing attempt and slipped a low shot just inside the right post for his first-career goal.
  • Spartan netminder Brady Bixler came up with a spectacular sprawling save in the 62nd minute to keep the shutout intact as he denied Cam Simpler who had broken free from the York backline.
  • The Spartan lead doubled from two to four when Brandon Holy and Tyler Howlett scored 23 seconds apart in the 63rd and 64th minutes. Nall connected with Holy as he rushed into the box and sailed a shot inside the left post. On the ensuing restart, Howlett a corralled the ball after a Hood miscue and sent it flying into the back of the net from nearly 30 yards out.
  • The Spartan onslaught continued in the 71st minute. Tyler Napier drove to the end line right of the goal and sent a cross back towards the middle. Out of nowhere, Shaun Apsley filled the hole on the back side and finished for his first tally of the season.
  • Brayden Safley joined the goal parade in the 76th minute when he cut to the middle of the field from the right side through traffic, found a soft spot and let a shot rip from 24 yards out to the back of the net.
  • The Spartans had to fend off a free kick opportunity in the 88th minute to preserve the shutout. Keegan Brade made an outstanding save on a point-blank shot by Jack Lawrence on the left post before Jackson Quenzer banged the rebound shot off the crossbar and the ball cleared to safety.
