Men's Soccer Comes From Two Down to Earn Draw at Eastern

Roche and Mitzelfelt each tally in the final 11 minutes to clinch 2-2 tie

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - A pair of Spartan tallies in the final 11 minutes captured a come-from-behind 2-2 draw for York men's soccer at Eastern on Saturday in a pivotal MAC Commonwealth match.

All four of the game's goals were scored in a span of 23 minutes in the final 31 minutes of play.  Noah Roche (79') and Jack Mitzelfelt (82') notched the last two tallies of the game for York to keep Spartans' MAC Commonwealth postseason hopes alive for another game.

Albright 5-8-3 (2-3-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • York held a slight edge in scoring chances in the first half with a 3-2 advantage in shots and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks. Brady Bixler made three saves in the first 45 minutes to help keep the Spartans even as the game moved to the second half.
  • The Eagles struck twice midway through the second half in a span of six minutes to take what appeared to be a comfortable two-goal advantage. Nik Kokolios had the first for Eastern the 59th minute as he knocked in a loose ball from six-yards out off a blocked shot in a free kick opportunity. Ryan Jammes curled a brilliant shot in from the right corner of the box past a diving Bixler to give Eastern their second.
  • Faced with steep odds at a comeback, the Spartans stayed the course and went to work. In the 79th minute, Luke Nall found a streaking Noah Roche up the middle and connected with him on a beautiful through ball that led Roche to the top of the box. Roche ripped a shot that resulted in a favorable rebound off the hands of Eagle keeper Ty Bleiler which allowed Roche the opportunity to knock in his own rebound for his second tally of the year.
  • Just three minutes after Roche's goal, the Spartans took advantage of the swing of momentum as they pumped in another. Nall played the role of set up man once again as he chipped a pass to the right side of the box to Jack Mitzelfelt who shot from 18-yards out and scored as his shot deflected off an Eastern defender on the way in to disrupt Bleiler's save attempt.
  • Both keepers made saves in the final eight minutes of play, including two by Bleiler, as both sides produced quality scoring chances with balls played deep into the box.
