Men's Soccer Falls to Alvernia on Senior Day

Golden Wolves get a one goal in each half for the win

YORK, PA – The Alvernia University Golden Wolves spoiled senior day for the York College men's soccer team as the visitors nabbed a 2-0 MAC Commonwealth win on Saturday in York. The Spartans have dropped two in a row and five of their last six during a challenging part of their schedule. York falls to 6-5-2 overall and 1-3 in the league while Alvernia improves to 9-2-4 overall and 3-2-1 in the league.

How It Happened
• It didn't take long for the Golden Wolves to find the back of the net as the Spartans committed a foul in the box in the ninth minute, giving Alvernia a penalty kick. Alvernia's Ryan Cogill slotted his PK into the upper right 90 to put the Golden Wolves up early. After the goal, the Spartans would out shoot Alvernia 4-3 the rest of the half but Alvernia goalie Evan Solley made a trio of saves to keep the Spartans off the board.
• The Golden Wolves started out the second half with six corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half but didn't get any dangerous chances with the six opportunities. Cole Kendra hit a shot on goal in the 68th minute off a free kick but it was easily saved by Solley. Noah Roche hit the post in the 79th minute as the Spartans were inches from tying the game up.
• The Golden Wolves put the game away with a Gabe Wunderlich goal in the 88th minute. The Spartans attempted to clear the ball with goalie Brady Bixler coming out to play the ball. Wunderlich chested the ball from about 35 yards out, collected the ball and lobbed a shot that cleared Bixler as he was charging back to get into the goal. The goal was Wunderlich's third goal of the year.
• The Golden Wolves closed out the game and earned the clean sheet. The Spartans ended the game out shooting Alvernia 11-9 overall and 4-3 in shots on goal. Alvernia held a 10-5 bulge in corner kicks for the match.
