Field Hockey Posts Record Ninth Shutout at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The York field hockey team notched their tenth win with their record-breaking ninth shutout of the season Saturday in a 2-0 victory at Widener.

The Spartans surpassed their previous single-season program record of eight shutouts (2005 & 2011) as they limited the Pride to a season-low two shots and held them scoreless for just the second time this year.

Team Records
Widener 8-6 (3-2 MACC)
#14 York 10-4 (4-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The two teams played to a scoreless first half. York generated four penalty corners to Widener's one, but the Spartans only mustered up one shot on goal on those four chances when Maycee Collison's shot in the 26th minute was turned away by Lilly Rejrat.
  • York broke the scoreless tie less than a minute into the second half when Maggie Spadafora rattled the back of the cage for her second tally of the season. The Spartans had chances to tack on more with a pair of penalty corners in the third quarter, but they were unable to get shots past the Pride defense and on goal.
  • York made some noise offensively early in the fourth with a pair of corners and shots in the first six minutes. The second of those corners paid off as Collison connected on a pass with Katie Martino who finished for team-leading 11th goal of the season.
  • The Spartan defense thwarted a trio of Widener penalty corners in the final five minutes to lock up the record shutout.
