GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's soccer team became a part of history on Wednesday night at #2 Messiah University. The Spartans knocked off the Falcons 1-0 as they snapped Messiah's historic 150-game conference unbeaten streak. The Falcons have gone 144-0-6 since their last conference loss. The last time Messiah suffered a league loss was October 25, 2000 when Moravian earned a 1-0 win in Grantham.
The Spartans improve to 7-3-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the Commonwealth. The Falcons suffered their first loss of the year as they are now 10-1-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.
How It Happened
• The Falcons had the better of the early play as they had four corner kicks and four shots in the opening 19 minutes of the game. York managed their first shot when
Erin Snyder hit a shot wide in the 22
nd minute.
• York struck for the game's only goal in the 28
th minute as
Sabrina McGuigan took a corner kick from the left side.
McGuigan struck a perfect kick as she curled a ball inside the far right post over the outstretched hands of Falcon goalie Ava Wert. The goal was McGuigan's first career tally.
• The two teams traded blows over the final 16 minutes of the first half. The Falcons had five shots including three on cage as Spartan netminder
Jacqueline Keogh notched three saves. York had three shots including a pair on goal as the Spartans held the 1-0 lead at the break.
• The second half featured the Spartans battling to keep the Falcons out of the goal. Messiah fired off 12 second half shots with four coming on target as Keogh was up to the task. The Falcons also had four corner kicks but the Spartan defense continued to thwart the talented Messiah attacking group.
• Messiah ended the game out shooting York 22-8 including 8-4 in shots on goal. The Falcons also had an 8-2 margin in corner kicks.

The win for the Spartans is the first against Messiah as the Falcons had been 11-0 against York coming into Wednesday's game … the Spartans have now knocked off two top 25 teams in 2022 (1-0 win vs. #24 Rochester on September 24) … the win over the #2 team in the country is highest ranked victim in Spartan history … York was 0-2 against Messiah last year including a loss in the MAC Commonwealth championship game at Messiah … the shutout is York's sixth of the year … senior goalie
Jacqueline Keogh lowered her goals against average to 0.78 as her save percentage is .855 … Keogh established a new career high with eight saves in the game … Keogh is second in the MAC Commonwealth in goals against average and saves while she ranks first in shutouts per game at 0.46 …
