Spartans Surrender Final Three Sets in Loss to Eastern

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball team surrendered a 3-1 decision to Eastern in a MAC Commonwealth match Tuesday night at Wolf Gym.

Team Records
Eastern 12-4 (5-0 MACC)
York 9-8 (2-3 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Spartans trailed by as much as five in the first set and never led until the very end as they pulled out a 27-25 win. Shannon Salo posted a pair of kills on a 5-2 York run down the stretch which helped the Spartans pull even with the Eagles and eventually move ahead to clinch the set.
  • York owned a five-point lead midway through the second set, but Eastern came storming back to claim a 25-19 win and even up the match. Megan Rizzi accounted for four of York's nine kills in the set, while Eastern's Elle Jiron-Bujanda assisted on 13 of her team's 15 kills.
  • Both teams hit below .100 in the second set as the Eagles edged out a 25-22 win. The Spartans never led, but managed to tie the set four times. They nearly tied it a fifth time as they pulled within one at 23-22, but Eastern snapped the door closed with back-to-back kills to end the set.
  • The Eagles led wire to wire in the fourth set as they rolled to a 25-11 win. Eastern hit a collective .500 in the frame while the Spartans swung an even .000 on 27 total attempts.
