Albright Hands Spartans First Conference Loss

York has home and conference win streaks snapped in 64-58 loss to Lions

YORK, Pa. - The York women's basketball team saw its conference and home win streaks come to an end Wednesday night in a 64-58 loss to Albright. The Spartans opened MAC Commonwealth play 7-0 coming into the night and had not lost on their home  floor since the season opener on November 9.

Team Records
Albright 9-5 (4-4 MACC)
York 13-3 (7-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Albright committed four-straight turnovers to start the game as the Spartans opened a 5-0 lead during that span. Albright fought back with four unanswered points, but Savannah Wilson ripped off five-straight of her own to force an Albright timeout as York led 10-4 with 4:43 left in the first quarter.
  • A made three-pointer off the glass by Alana Bortner from well beyond the arc as time expired gave York a 17-16 edge at the end of one quarter of play. Albright had out-scored the Spartans 12-4 prior to the Bortner three as the Lions shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from three-point range
  • Turnovers plagued Albright again to start the second quarter. The Lions coughed it up on three of their first four possessions while York opened up a 22-18 advantage through the opening three minutes of the quarter.
  • Neither team ended the quarter on a high note offensively. The Spartans finished 1-for-6 from the floor, but held Albright scoreless through the final three minutes to take a 27-24 lead into the halftime break.
  • With just over three minutes left in the third quarter, Maggie O'Hare sank a free throw to complete a three-point play which gave the Lions their first lead (36-35) since the final minute of the first quarter. York ended the quarter on 8-2 run with four different players doing the scoring as the Spartans owned a 43-38 heading into the fourth.
  • A Wilson jumper pushed York out to a 45-38 lead just 19 seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Spartans their largest lead of the game. Unfortunately, York went on to score just three points over the next 3:32 which allowed Albright to pull even, 48-48, with 6:05 left.
  • After a back-and-forth stretch, Albright's Mackenzie Dover hit a three-pointer with 2:41 left to give the Lions their largest lead of the night to that point at 56-52. The Spartans would threaten two possessions later by cutting the deficit to two, but York never managed to overcome the deficit the rest of the way. The Lions went on to seal the victory by going 6-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch while holding the Spartans to just three field goal attempts in the final two minutes.
