Volleyball Splits Home-Opening Doubleheader

Spartans Sweep Oberlin in first match before falling in five sets to F&M

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. - The York volleyball team opened their home slate on Saturday with a doubleheader split against Oberlin and Franklin & Marshall. The Spartans swept Oberlin, 3-0, in the first match of the day and nearly pulled off a comeback victory in a 3-2 loss to F&M in the second match.

How It Happened
  • York commanded the first two sets against Oberlin, jumping out to early leads en route to victories of 25-12 and 25-9, respectively. The third set played out in tighter fashion with York ultimately prevailing, 25-23.
  • The Spartans found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first two sets with F&M as the Diplomats edged out victories of 25-21 and 25-22. The Dips hit .370 as a team in the opening set and both teams found themselves in the negatives in the second set.
  • With their backs against the wall, the Spartans battled back to win the third and fourth sets. Claire Shorb led all players with a combined 10 kills in those two sets, while Tyler Williams added a combined total of eight.
  • Service miscues plagued both sides in the fifth set as the two teams combined for seven service errors and no aces. Neither team managed to open up more than a one-point lead throughout the set until the Diplomats managed to score back-to-back points at the end of the set to clinch the victory.

The Spartans open MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday with a trip to Stevenson. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
