How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a good start as they spent a majority of the opening 30 minute of play in the Lions' defensive third.
Jenna Terenchin almost opened the scoring in the third minute as she hit a header off a
Morgan Joyce corner kick just wide of the cage. Terenchin hit two more shots in the next 20 minutes but wasn't able to find the back of the net.
• The Spartans finally got on the board in the 31
st minute. Senior
Caitlyn Findlay sent a well-placed pass through the middle to an onrushing
Anna Morton out wide. Morton played a brilliant one-touch ball to
Makayla Harper who made a great anticipatory run through the center of Harrisburg's back line. Harper finished Morton's pass by slotting the shot past an advancing Harrisburg goalie Delaney Shifflett for the goal. The goal snapped a scoreless streak of 120:10 to open the season for the Green and White.
• The next ten minutes found the two teams playing in between the boxes. The Green and White got a corner kick opportunity in the 44
th minute and they took advantage of it. Freshman
Brooke Flugman hit a nice kick from the corner as she found the head of
Colleen Sullivan who headed the ball past Shifflett for the 2-0 Spartan lead.
• York held Harrisburg without a shot in the first half while they fired off six with their two goals being the only shots on target. York also held a 3-0 margin in corner kicks.
• The Spartans had opportunities in the second half but couldn't add to the lead. The Spartans fired off nine second half shots with four coming on target. York limited the Lions to one shot in the second half.
