Spartans Earn First Victory of Season at Arcadia

York scores two unanswered goals to pull off 2-1 comeback win

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The York men's soccer team notched its first victory of the season in a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph at Arcadia on Saturday.

Team Records
York 1-0-1
Arcadia 0-1-0

How It Happened
  • York compiled an early 3-1 advantage in corner kicks and a 3-2 advantage in shots through the first 17 minutes of play.
  • The Knights struck first with a tally in the 19th minute, but the Spartans answered less than two full minutes later on a McClain Smith goal in the 21st minute. Tyler Howlett assisted on the goal as he served a pass from the right while Smith broke free from the Arcadia center backs for a one-touch strike into the net.
  • The Knights went on to out-shoot the Spartans, 4-2, through the remainder of the first half as Keegan Brade posted a save during that span.
  • York wasted little time getting to work offensively in the second half as Ethan Lassen found pay dirt in the 51st minute for the eventual game-winning goal. Howlett once again got involved in the scoring effort as his initial shot from the right was saved by Jake Varrato, but Lassen came in to finish the rebound.
  • The Spartans protected their lead through the final 39 minutes as Brade made two more saves while facing a total of six shots during that span.

Up Next
The Spartans return home to face No. 15 Rowan on Wednesday. Kickoff from Graham Field is set for 7 p.m.
