How It Happened
• The Spartans had control of the game from the start. The Green and White wasted little time in getting on the board. Erin Snyder captured the loose ball near midfield. She hit a nice long ball to Ashlynn Weger along the far sideline. Weger sent it into the box were Caitlyn Findlay had a deft back heel touch to Alyssa Russell in the middle of the box. Russell hit a shot inside the right post for the 1-0 York lead just 6:21 into the game.
• The Spartans added to their lead 14 minutes later thanks to a great individual effort. Makayla Harper received a long outlet from Findlay that she got on her foot about 15 yards beyond the top of the box. Harper beat three different Cougar defenders before sidestepping hard-charging Chatham goalie Tyler Colburn. Harper had one more defender to beat before she flicked a shot into the wide open goal for the 2-0 lead.
• The Green and White tacked on a third first-half goal in the 28th minute on another great goal. Rebecca Morgan got a steal just inside the far right sideline. She drove the ball towards the end line where she found freshman Elizabeth Gleeson. Gleeson took the ball along the end line until she found Findlay with a nifty pass that Findlay one-timed into the back of the net for her second goal of the year.
• York goalie Cat McCarty kept the Cougars off the board with a spectacular save on a Morgan Anderson rocket with 6:19 left in the first half. She had a second great save four minutes later as she again denied Anderson a goal.
• The Spartans continued to carry the play in the second half as they continued to pepper the Chatham goal. York closed out the scoring in the 85th minute as Gleeson tracked down a long outlet pass outside the box on the left-hand side. She settled the ball, got past a defender before threading a pass to Ashley Hudak who was making a run down the heart of the box. Hudak one-timed Gleeson's pass into the back of the net for the goal. The goal was Hudak's second of the year.
• York out-shot the Cougars 19-3 for the game including 12-1 in the second half.
