How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board against the Blue Jays as they put together a nice combination to get on the board.
Jenna Terenchin won the ball at midfield and served to ball to
Alyssa Russell who outraced her defender. Russell then settled the ball near the end line in the box and made a great move on the Blue Jay defender. She served the ball to
Ashlynn Weger, who beat her defender to the ball, and Weger finished off the chance for the 1-0 Spartan lead in the game's 11
th minute.
• York made it 2-0 in the 33
rd minute of play with another great combination.
Megan Stoltzfus hit a ball down the left wing.
Elizabeth Gleeson, who had just checked into the game for York, chased down the ball near the end line. She collected the ball and spotted
Makayla Harper sprinting towards the center of the box. Gleeson hit Harper with a precise pass in the box. Harper made a move on the defender and finished the play with a great shot for her third goal of the year.
• The Blue Jays outshot York 5-4 in the first half while both teams had one corner kick.
• The Spartans controlled the second half but wouldn't be able to add to their lead. They out shot the Blue Jays 12-8 including 6-4 in shots on goal.
