GRANTHAM, PA – The York College volleyball team picked up their second straight conference win as they went on the road and picked up a 3-0 win over Messiah University on Wednesday evening in Grantham, PA.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a great start in set one as York sprinted out to a 16-5 lead. York kept rolling, eventually pushing the lead to 13 points at 20-7 on a Claire Shorb service ace. York closed out the first set 25-13 as a Shorb kill finished off the set.
• York began the second set with an 8-5 lead. The Falcons responded by battling back to take a 12-10 courtesy of a quick 4-0 run. York battled back to tie the set at 14 on a Messiah attack error. After the Falcons took a 15-14 lead, York responded with an 8-1 run to take a 22-16 lead. The Spartans would close out the second set, apped with a Briyana Shepard kill followed by a Shepard service ace as York took set two 25-18.
• The third set was back and forth from the start. There were nine ties in the first 24 points of the match. York pushed out to a 15-12 lead but the Falcons eventually cut the York lead to 19-17. York scored four straight points to take a 23-17 lead but Messiah answered with four straight points of their own. Shannon Salo got a kill to put York up 24-21. Messiah got a Mackenzie Feight kill to bring the Falcons to within two but a Messiah service error end the game with York taking a 25-22 victory.

The Spartans have now won six straight against the Falcons and improve to 21-13 all-time against Messiah … York is now 5-1 in games decided in three sets … York has won five of their last six matches with their lone loss coming to Ithaca … York hit .255 in the win, the third time they have hit over .250 in a match … York made just 14 errors in the match, their second-lowest total of the year (12 vs. Oberlin) … York registered 16 block assists in the win, their second highest total of the year to the 18 they recorded in the season-opening win over Catholic … sophomore Megan Rizzi leads the team in total kills (104) and attack percentage (.212) … setter Abby Diehl leads the squad with 22 service aces (0.61 sapg) while she has handed out 266 assists (7.39 apg) … Sydney Wilber leads the teams in blocks with 35 total blocks, an average of 0.97 blocks per game.
