Men's Soccer Opens Season In Scoreless Draw With Lycoming

Keegan Brade makes six saves as Spartans shutout MAC Freedom preseason favorite

YORK, Pa. - The Spartans opened the 2021 campaign in a 0-0 draw with MAC Freedom preseason favorite Lycoming on Thursday night at Graham Field.

Team Records
Lycoming 0-0-1
York 0-0-1

How It Happened
  • Lycoming had its first quality chance of the game in the 47th minute as a Spartan foul set up a free kick opportunity just outside the 18-yard line. Austin Craig had a great look at the goal, but his shot sailed harmlessly wide to the right side of the net.
  • York put together a solid chance in the 58th minute when McClain Smith sent a cross-field pass to a streaking Luke Nall up the right side, but Nall was unable to create a clean look and sent a low shot into the waiting arms of Warrior goalkeeper Zack Donoway.
  • Another quality chance for York came in the 67th minute when Nall played a ball back into the middle of the box where he found the waiting foot of Smith, but Smith's chance was blocked as he could not get a clean look on net through Lycoming traffic.
  • York received a big lift from its goalkeeper, Keegan Brade, in the 71st minute as Brade came rushing out of his net to make a spectacular save on a breakaway chance by Lycoming's Albi Rizvani.
  • Dylan Sloan had a quality look for Lycoming in the final minute of regulation on a free kick from approximately 30 yards out on the right side. Sloan put plenty of foot on it, but his shot sailed just inches over the crossbar as the game moved to overtime.
  • In the 93rd minute, Brade came up clutch again for the Spartans as he thwarted a lunging header attempt by Austin Craig from inside the six-yard line.
  • In the 105th minute, Matt Zeiders put a strong foot on a free kick from well beyond 30 yards out that grazed the top of the crossbar.
