Findlay's Homecoming a Memorable One in York's 1-0 Victory

Senior Caitlyn Findlay scores the game's lone goal in Selinsgrove homecoming

SELINSGROVE, PA – York College senior Caitlyn Findlay had quite a homecoming on Saturday as she netted the game's long goal in the 1-0 Spartan win at Susquehanna University. Findlay, a Selinsgrove native, was able to find the back of the net 20 minutes into the game to give York all the scoring they would need in the win.

How It Happened
• The Spartans controlled the early play as they had a shot on goal and three corner kicks in the opening nine minutes of the game. That pressure paid off in the 19th minute for the Spartans. Jenna Cholowinski won a contested ball on the left flank. Alyssa Russell collected the loose ball and sent a precise pass to the top of the box. The pinpoint pass found a hard charging Caitlyn Findlay who banged home a one-timer into the far side corner for the game's lone goal.
• The Spartans had other chances in the first half as they out shot Susquehanna 7-0 as a majority of the play was in York's offensive half of the field. Susquehanna goalie Carlie Marquette kept her team in the game with five first half saves.
• York continued to control the game but Marquette was again up to the task as she made seven saves on eight second half shots for the Spartans. The Spartans ended the game with a 15-3 edge in total shots including a 13-0 margin in shots on goal. Marquette finished the game with a career-high 12 saves in her first career start for the River Hawks.

The Spartans now lead the all-time series 2-1-1 as they have won two straight in the series … the teams last met on September 5, 2009 when York notched a 4-0 win in York … York is now 3-0 on Saturday games as they have outscored their three opponents 9-0 in those three contests … in five of York's six games, there has been a shutout as the Spartans have three of those shutouts … the homecoming for Caitlyn Findlay marked the first time in her Spartan career that she has played a game in her home town … Findlay was able to notch the goal with her parents in her attendance … Findlay's father Jim, the head men's soccer coach at Susquehanna, was able to see his daughter's goal before departing for a road game at Widener … Findlay's goal was her first game-winner of the year and second of her career … Findlay's other game-winning goal came on October 6, 2018 with two goals in the 4-0 win over Southern Virginia … the Spartans have 10 goals on the year and have eight different goal scorers … York has outscored their six opponents 10-4

The Spartans wrap up their four-match road swing with a game at Elizabethtown on Wednesday evening. Kick off in Elizabethtown is set for 7:00 pm. The Spartans will be searching for their third straight win in the series.
