Spartans Suffer Second-Straight Road Loss

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - An early deficit proved too much to overcome as the York men's soccer squad fell, 2-1, on the road to Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.

Team Records
York 2-3-1
Bridgewater 2-3-0

How It Happened
  • The Spartans came out swinging off the opening whistle with two shots on goal in the opening minute.
  • Bridgewater survived the opening flurry from the Spartans and responded in a big way with a goal off a corner in just the fourth minute of play.
  • The two sides went on to trade shots on goal twice over the next 18 minutes of play, but both goalies were up to the task.
  • The next shot on  goal belonged to the Eagles, and this time they made it count David Franco found the back of the net for the second time of the day.
  • The Spartans racked up for more shots in the final five minutes of the first half and totaled 10 for the half, including six on target.
  • York kept applying the pressure in desperate hopes of finding a breakthrough. The Green and White racked up a staggering total of eight shots through the first 21 minutes of the second half, including three on goal.
  • York's efforts finally paid dividends when Luke Nall set up Tyler Howlett in the 80th minute for his second tally of the season and cut the Eagle to one.
  • Brady Bixler kept York's comeback hopes alive with a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes, but the Spartans were unable to complete the task despite putting a pair of shots on target in the final minute of play.
