CHESTER, PA – The York College women's track & field team participated in a pair of meets this weekend as they traveled to Messiah on Friday for a Distance Carnival followed by a meet at Widener on Saturday.
The Spartans finished third of eight teams on Friday night and Saturday's MAC Only Meet at Widener didn't have a team score.
The Spartans had four top five finishers in Friday's limited events. York followed that with a big day on Saturday with two wins and nine top five finishes overall. Sophomore Julia Pena continues her highly successful season as she won the long jump and pole vault while she finished second in the 100 hurdles.
Senior Sydney Fitzwater earned a pair of top fives as she was third in the hammer throw and fifth in the shot put. Her throw of 41.72 in the hammer set a new school record.

Sophomore Julia Pena continues to perform at a high level for the Green and White … Pena's long jump distance of 5.33 meters sets a new standard for the event in the MAC, surpassing Messiah's Taylor Wiederrecht's previous to distance of 5.23 meters … Pena also owns the top marks in the MAC in the pole vault (3.41 meters, set at LVC on March 27) while she sits second in the 100 hurdles … Taylor Barkdoll just missed out on winning the 800 as Alvernia's Katelyn Schoener edged Barkdoll by just .18 seconds … Jordan Haberstroh's time in the 10K on Friday night is the fourth best time in the MAC so far this year ... sophomore Lauren Perlish ran the 10K on Friday night for the first time in her career and she finished with a time of 42:54.65 which is a qualifying time for the MAC championships.
