12 Spartans Remain in Contention After First Day of New Standard Invitational

Five Spartans Remain in Championship Bracket

RESULTS

YORK, Pa. - At the conclusion of day one of the 12th Annual New Standard Invitational, 12 Spartans remain in contention with five remaining in the championship bracket. York is tied with No. 23 Johns Hopkins for eighth place in the 12-team field.

Five Quarterfinalists
  • No. 11 Jared Kuhns (125), Tyson McDuffy (141), No. 14 Jared Bair (149), Eric Hutchinson (165) and Camden Farrow (197) have all punched their tickets to tomorrow's quarterfinals with a combined record of 5-0 on the day.
  • Kuhns, Hutchinson and Farrow all posted bonus-point victories. Kuhns and Hutchinson each  scored technical fall victories, while Farrow claimed a first-period fall (2:19) in his lone bout of the day.

Consolation Contenders
  • Joey Carpenter (133), Brandon Murray (133), Bryan Diaz (141), Nick Paolucci (149), AJ DeVries (165), TJ Quelet (184) and Trevor Lintz (197) all remain in contention in the consolation bracket.
  • Carpenter and Murray both rebounded from opening-round losses to post victories in their second bouts to stay alive. Carpenter won via the fall (0:51), while Murray scored a 6-3 decision.
  • Diaz went 1-1 with a win in his first match before dropping his second. Paolucci and DeVries each went 2-1 on the day, bookending their days with victories. Quelet and Lintz each went 0-1 and received a bye to advance into the next consolation round.

Notes
York compiled seven bonus-point wins on the day, including three via fall … Joey Carpenter had the fastest fall of the day for York at 0:51 … Camden Farrow had one of York's other falls on the day as he improves to 9-0 on the season and moves into a tie with Jared Bair for the team's pin lead (6) on the season … Jared Kuhns also remains hot as he has now his last seven-straight matches to improve to 9-2 on the season and extends his team-leading tech fall mark to four on the season.
