YORK, PA – The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays spoiled the Spartan women's basketball season opener with a 42-31 win on Tuesday evening in York. Both teams struggled on the offensive end as Hopkins shot 30.2% from the floor while York converted just 26.1% from the field.

How It Happened
• The Blue Jays got off to a good start as they led 11-0 before
Bradi Zumbrum hit a lay up midway through the opening quarter of play. The Blue Jays would end the quarter with a 14-6 lead.
• After Hopkins opened the second quarter with a Greta Miller fast break lay up off a steal, the Spartans got another Zumbrum jumper to trim their deficit to eight. Hopkins pushed the lead to 15 at 23-8 on a Diarra Oden lay up with 4:23 left in the half. The lead grew to 15 before
Kayla Ferris and
Cassidy Arnold each hit buckets in the final minute of the play as York trailed by 11 heading to the break.
• York crept to nine on a pair of Arnold free throws but the Blue Jays pushed the lead back to 17 at 34-17 with 5:30 left in the quarter. York eventually trimmed the lead to 11 at 35-24 with just over a minute left in the third.
• The fourth quarter was absent of much offensive punch as each team scored just seven points in the quarter for the final 11 point Blue Jay win.
