Women's Soccer Tallies First MAC Commonwealth Victory

Anna Morton Scores Twice as Spartans Cruise Past Alvernia, 5-0

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team notched its first-ever MAC Commonwealth victory Friday evening with a 5-0 victory at Alvernia. Anna Morton tallied twice as the Spartans racked up four goals in the first half.

Team Records
York 8-4-0 (1-1-0 MACC)
Alvernia 3-8-0 (0-3-0 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Anna Morton put York on the board very early in the contest with a tally in the fifth minute. Elizabeth Gleeson fed a pass through traffic from the right side of the box and found Morton on the backside of the play who finished for the game's first tally.
  • Five minutes later, the Spartans found the back of the net again, this time with Morton setting up Gleeson for the goal. Morton fired a pass across the goal mouth the left side that scooted out to the right where the sure-footed Gleeson was positioned on the backside to knock in the rebound.
  • Morton had the hot foot in the first half as she tallied her second goal of the game in the 24th minute. The junior beat her defender and created enough shooting space from close range to get a clean shot off that found the back of the net once again.
  • The Spartans tacked on another goal less than two minutes left in the opening half. This time it was Ashley Hudak off a corner set piece from seven yards out. Sabrina McGuigan curled in the entry pass from the corner and Hudak rose up behind her defender and headed the ball past the Sprawling Alvernia keeper.
  • The Spartans dominated possession in the second half as they held the Golden Wolves to just one shot in the final 45 minutes of play.
  • Erin Snyder tallied one last goal in the 76th minute. After a corner entry by McGuigan from the left, Snyder collected the pass on the backside of the play off a high bounce and sliced a shot back to the left to beat the keeper.

Up Next
The Spartans return home to face Albright on Tuesday night in a conference tilt slated to kick off at 7 p.m.

Notes
