READING, PA – The Spartan volleyball squad won their fourth straight MAC Commonwealth contest as they cruised past Albright College in three games on Wednesday night.
The Spartans have ripped off four straight league wins after dropping their Commonwealth opener to preseason favorite Stevenson.
 
Scores: York 3, Albright 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19)

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a solid start in game one as they raced out to an 11-4 lead. The Lions scored the next two points but York ripped off a 5-1 run capped by a Shannon Salo kill to take a 16-7 lead. The Lions went on a 6-2 run of their own, cutting York's advantage to 18-13. York scored seven of the final 11 points of the set to win 25-17.
• The second set was more back-and-forth. York pushed out to a 13-9 lead only to have the Lions answer with three straight points to cut the York lead to 13-12. After a Lion service error, Claire Shorb had a pair of service aces to power a 6-1 York run as the Green and White led 19-13. Albright scored four of the next five points but York responded by scoring four of the final six points to pull out a 25-21 set two victory.
• Albright began set three with a trio of points but the Spartans ripped off seven straight points to seize the early control. The York lead grew to 11-6 before Albright posted a mini-run of 4-1 to cut the York lead to 12-10. The Spartans responded with a 7-2 run of their own to increase their lead to 19-12. York eventually pushed their lead to 23-14 but Albright scored five of the next six points before the Spartans finally secured the win on an Albright ball-handling error.

The Spartans improve to 12-2 all-time against Albright as they have won 11 straight in the series … York hit .202 in the win and that's the sixth time this year York has hit over .200 in a match … the Spartans are 6-0 when hitting over .200 in a match … York had 15 errors in the match which is their third lowest total of the year … Claire Shorb had 14 kills in the win as she now has four matches with double figures in kills in 2021 … Shorb has hit over .200 in five matches this fall … York has outscored their MAC Commonwealth opponents by a combined score of 14-5.

The Spartans head to Selinsgrove this weekend as they play in the River Hawk Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. York faces Rochester on Friday at 5:00 pm in their only match of the day. They then face host Susquehanna on Saturday morning at 11 am followed by a match against MAC Freedom foe Stevens at 3:00 pm.
