Spartans Notch Key Non-Conference Victory Over Rowan

Spartans cap four-game home stand with 3-1 record

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory at home over Rowan on Wednesday in a matchup of regional ranked teams. Caitlyn Findlay's tally in the 74th minute would go down as the game-winner with the Profs scoring their lone goal in the 76th minute.

Team Records
Rowan 8-3-0
York 7-4-0

How It Happened
  • The Spartans put a quality run together in the 40th minute. Jenna Cholowinski started the play with a long cross from the left to the middle. The ball scooted out to Rebecca Morgan on the wing and played it back towards the 18-yard line where Ashley Hudak ripped a shot on goal that forced a sprawling save by Bristol Pizzuto.
  • Rowan had a chance to take the lead in the 51st minute as a York foul gave the Profs a free kick opportunity from 27 yards out. Natalie Pantalone had a good look on target, but her shot sailed just wide to the right.
  • York's efforts paid dividends in the 57th minute. Anna Morton carried the ball into the left side of the box towards the end line and passed it back towards the middle. The pass found its way to the backside of the play where Erin Snyder was camped out and one-touched a shot into the back of the open net.
  • The Profs had another free kick opportunity from inside 30 yards in the 64th minute. Pantalone had the honors again for Rowan, but her shot once again missed the mark as it sailed high.
  • The Saprtans found the back of the net again in the 74th minute. Cholowinski once again started the play as she sent a long pass from the left wing over the top into the box. Caitlyn Findlay ran on and headed the pass past Pizzuto for her third tally of the season.
  • Two minutes after Findlay's goal, Rowan responded with a tally to cut the deficit in half. Cassidy McErlain put together a great sequence for goal as she pushed up the left side, cut back into the middle, shot around her defender and curled the shot inside the left post for the tally.
