Women's Soccer Punches Postseason Ticket with Win at Widener

Spartans Clinch 3rd Seed in MAC Commonwealth Postseason with 3-0 Win

CHESTER, Pa. - The York women's soccer team needed a win or a draw entering Saturday's match at Widener to clinch a MAC Commonwealth postseason berth and left doubt with a 3-0 triumph over the Pride. Jenna Terenchin's tally in the 12th minute held up as the eventual game-winner as the Senior now has goals in three-straight games and the game-winning tally in the last two.

The Spartans will enter the MAC Commonwealth Championship as the third seed and will travel to No. 2 seed Lebanon Valley on Thursday for a semifinal round match. Game time is TBA.

York 12-6-0 (5-3-0 MACC)
Widener 8-6-1 (3-4-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Widener had the momentum through the first 10 minutes with several runs into their attacking third, but the Pride had nothing to show for their efforts. The next 10 minutes belonged to York in a big way with the Spartans tallying twice in a seven-minute span.
  • Jenna Terenchin opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play as she finished on a pass from Alyssa Russell for her fourth tally of the season.
  • Cat McCarty made a key save in the 14th minute, which then turned into a Spartan goal on the other end. In the 19th minute, Jenna Cholowinski swept up the field and served a ball into the box where Ashlynn Weger rose up and headed into the back of the net. The goal is Weger's fourth on the season, while Cholowinski registered her fourth assist.
  • McCarty would go to finish the first half with four saves as the Pride owned an 8-5 total shot advantage heading into the break. McCarty would then make two more saves in the first nine minutes of the second half to preserve the Spartan lead.
  • York would reward its keeper for her efforts with another tally in the 66th minute. After a Weger shot hit the post, the Spartans regained possession which set them up for another chance. Cholowinski ended up with the ball on her foot up the left side and curled a shot into the upper right corner from 25 yards out to put an exclamation point on the Spartan win.
