York Wins Third-Straight Conference Game with Eighth Shutout of Season

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team gutted out a crucial 1-0 victory over Stevenson at home on Tuesday night to remain in the hunt for a MAC Commonwealth postseason berth. Jenna Terenchin's tally in the 26th minute held up as the game-winner with York dominating time of possession as evidenced by a 14-1 shot advantage.

Team Records
Stevenson 5-7-0 (3-3-1 MACC)
York 11-6-0 (4-3-0 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Stevenson survived a scare in the seventh minute on a Spartan corner kick as Megan Stoltzfus curled a pass in from the left corner that had to be punched away by Mustang keeper Keegan Caffrey to prevent a goal. On the same corner, York had a follow up attempt as Ashlynn Weger connected on a header that once again forced a stop by Caffrey.
  • The Spartans had another quality chance in the 23rd minute. York swept up the left side and fed a ball to Erin Snyder inside the 18-yard line who sent a strike on target, but found the left post. The Mustangs rallied to the rebound and prevented a second-chance opportunity for the Spartans.
  • York's pressure eventually paid off in the 26th minute when Jenna Terenchin netted the go ahead tally. Weger started the play as he carried the ball to the end line. She then passed it left to Caitlyn Findlay on the right post who one-touched a pass back out to Rebecca Morgan who then crossed the ball left where Terenchin was waiting on the back side to knock it home for her third tally of the season.
  • The Spartans went back on the offensive early in the second half and earned a corner kick in the 53rd minute. Jenna Cholowinksi inserted a pass from the right corner to the middle of the crease where Snyder headed the pass towards the goal, but round the post for the second time on the night.
  • York had another quality opportunity to extend the lead in the 64th minute on a free kick. Moriah Morton stood over the ball from 25 yards out and hooked a shot over the Stevenson wall of defenders to the left side of the net that forced a spectacular diving save by Caffrey.
  • All of sudden with about 15 minutes left in regulation, the field began to shift in Stevenson's favor. The Mustangs, who had been stifled all game long and struggled to get position into their attacking third, recorded their first shot of the game in the 83rd minute when Cassidy Butler sent a shot on goal from nearly 50 yards.
  • The Mustangs continued to string runs together in the closing minutes as they desperately pressed to get a goal, but their efforts would amount to nothing as the Spartans held them off for the victory.

Up Next
The Spartans close out the regular season on Saturday with a trip to Widener with a MAC Commonwealth postseason berth and seeding position on the line.
