Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day with 3-1 Win

Caitlyn Findlay scores twice while Jenna Terenchin has a goal and an assist

YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer team celebrated their 2021 Senior Day in style with a 3-1 MAC Commonwealth win over Eastern University on an overcast Saturday in York.
Prior to the game, the Spartans honored their seven seniors, recognizing them for their contributions to the York College women's soccer program.

Score: York 3, Eastern 1
Records: York 10-6 (3-3 MACC), Eastern 7-7-2 (1-4-1 MACC)

How It Happened
• The two squads traded opening blows over the first 20 minutes of the game as neither team held a significant advantage. Eastern seized an opportunity in the 25th minute to take an early lead. Gabi Hollinger settled a loose ball on the right wing, made a move on a Spartan defender and slotted a shot inside the post for her seventh goal of the year.
• That goal appeared to light a fire under the Green and White as they began to be the aggressors. The Spartans notched the equalizer in the 34th minute as Makayla Harper carried the ball to the left end line. She centered a pass to Anna Morton who one-touched a pass to Caitlyn Findlay who finished off the chance inside the left post, tying the game at one.
• The Spartans finished the first half with a 10-4 edge in total shots while Eastern had a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.
• The York offensive pressure continued in the opening minutes of the second half. Megan Stoltzfus started the play with an interception at midfield. She turned and fired a long outlet pass to Jenna Terenchin who ran onto the ball just outside the top of the box. Terenchin hit a running Findlay who was streaking down the middle of the box. Findlay took a pair of dribbles and lifted a lofted shot over the keeper before getting crunched by an Eastern defender. The two goals give Findlay a team-leading six tallies for the year.
• The third Spartan goal came because of great individual effort by Terenchin. The Eagles played the ball back to keeper Emily Honig and Terenchin pressured her into a bad pass that went directly to Spartan teammate Ashlynn Weger. Weger calmly slipped a pass back to Terenchin who beat Honig who had come out to challenge the shot. The goal was Terenchin's second of the year and came with 26:25 left in regulation.
• The Spartans finished the game out-shooting the Eagles 22-7 including 9-4 in shots on goal. York also held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
