Men's Soccer Honors Seniors with Shutout Win

YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team posted its second-straight conference shutout victory with a 2-0 win over Eastern on Saturday at Graham Field. Spartan seniors Andrew Colebrook and McClain Smith were honored during the pregame festivities for their contributions to the program over the last four seasons.

Team Records
Eastern 8-5-2 (2-4-0 MACC)
York 5-7-3 (3-3-0 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Spartans wasted little time getting on the board as Tyler Howlett netted the opening goal of the game in the third minute of action. Luke Nall carried the ball into the right side of the box and fired a pass across the goal mouth. Howlett collected the pass on the backside where finished an easy tap in goal.
  • Brady Bixler made a pair of stellar saves on consecutive Eastern possessions. The first came on a Ryan Jammes shot from over 30 yards out and the second on a shot by Gabriel Velazquez from six-yards out on the right.
  • York capitalized on a set piece opportunity in the 36th minute for the second goal of the game. Brett Joyner served a pass into the box on a free kick from over 30 yards out up the right sideline. His pass found Tyler Buberl on the backside of the play who headed it in for his second tally of the season.
  • The Spartans went on to dominate possession and control the pace in the second half. York limited Eastern to just one shot on goal in the second half as the Eagles struggled to put together quality scoring chances.

Up Next
The Spartans hit the road Wednesday to face Stevenson in a MAC Commonwealth match salted for a 7 p.m. start time.

Notes
York takes a 3-2 lead over Eastern in the all-time series after losing the previous two meetings with the Eagles … after winning three of their last four conference games, the Spartans have positioned themselves as a strong contender to capture one of the final two spots for the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
