Women's Soccer Earns Big Double Overtime Win at Hood

Spartans outshot Blazers 29-5 en route to victory

FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's soccer team picked up a big 2-1 double-overtime win at Hood College on Wednesday night in Frederick, Maryland. The win snaps a two-game losing skid and keeps the Spartans squarely in the mix for a MAC Commonwealth tournament berth.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a good start after Hood had the opening shot of the game. The Spartans responded with four straight shots. The fourth one found the back of the cage as Caitlyn Findlay found herself on the end of a Rebecca Morgan pass. The goal was a direct result of fine passing by the Spartan side. Erin Snyder played the ball centrally to Jenna Terenchin  who knocked it out wide to Morgan. Morgan took a pair of dribbles and floated a cross to Findlay who placed a flicked header just wide of the goal keeper's outstretched hands. It was Findlay's fourth goal of the year as York took the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of play. The Spartans would continue to pressure the Hood defense but goalie Gabi Dolan played well in keeping the Spartan offense in check. Dolan made six first-half saves for the Blazers to keep the score 1-0.
York out shot the Blazers 12-2 in the opening 45 minutes of play while Hood held a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.
• The Blazers notched the equalizer just over 11 minutes into the second half as Priya Nair scored an unassisted goal in the 57th minute of play. The Spartans continued to press but reserve goalie Brenna Ellenberger also played well in blanking the Green and White during the second half with five saves on the 10 Spartan shots.
• York continued to carry play in the first overtime. The Blazers notched a team-save in the 95th minute as it looked like Findlay was going to score the game winner only to have the ball cleared off the line.
• York finally broke the tie with 3:25 left in the second overtime as a great team effort led to the goal. It started when Ashlynn Weger sprinted to keep the ball in bounds off a Hood clearing attempt as Morgan was pressing the Hood player forcing the miscue. Snyder captured the ball at the top of the box after the turnover. She played the ball into the center of the box where Terenchin found Alyssa Russell with a back heel flick. Russell hit a shot from just outside the left post that Ellenberger saved but the ball found Megan Stoltzfuswho completed a run to the middle of the boxStoltzfus banged home the opportunity and a wild Spartan celebration ensued. The goal for Stoltzfus was her first of the year and couldn't have come at a better time for the Green and White.
• The Spartans finished the game out shooting Hood 29-5 while York also had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans improve to 8-0 all-time against the Blazers as the schools are former members of the Capital Athletic Conference … the meeting is the first between the two teams since September 28, 2011 … the Spartans fired off a season-high 29 shots while 17 of those shots came on goal … York has outshot their last four opponents by a combined total of 90-24 but have only outscored those opponents 8-5.
