How It Happened
  • York survived a dangerous situation in the 14th minute as Jarec Morlote served a free kick deep into the box. Luke Groohoff rose up out of the crowd to deflect the pass straight at the goal mouth, but Brady Bixler had a read on the shot and made the save.
  • The Falcons had another quality opportunity in the 17th minute as this time Jonathan Groothoff sliced a shot through traffic from inside the 18, but Bixler was in position again to make the save
  • York countered moments later when Tyler Howlett found some space in the middle and unleashed a bullet from 19-yards out. Falcon keeper Jared Pavloich used every inch of his six-foot, two-inch frame to extend high and snare Howlett's shot that was destined for the net.
  • The Falcons brought pressure early to start the second half which led to a battle for possession inside the Spartan box and eventually a foul was called on York in the scramble. Luke Groothoff took the penalty kick for Messiah and converted high to the right to break the scoreless tie in the 48th minute.
  • Messiah extended the lead in the 61st minute. The Falcons served the ball back into the box following a corner, the ball bounced around and finally settled on the foot of Stegfan Leitzel who knocked it in inside the right post.
  • Seven minutes later, the Falcons tallied an insurance goal as Jake Lent-Koop headed in a pass from Cole Cristian off a corner kick from the left side.
  • Messiah added further insurance in the 86th minute when Zackary Venus dribbled into the left side of the box and unleashed a harsh angle shot to the upper right corner.
