YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer squad did something Saturday they haven't done all year as they lost their second straight contest, falling on the road 2-1 at Lebanon Valley. The Spartans, who had won five of six matches prior to Wednesday, have now lost back-to-back games with both games being MAC Commonwealth contests.
Score: York 1, Lebanon Valley 2
Records: York 8-6 (1-3 MACC), LVC 6-6-1 (4-1 MACC)
How It Happened
• The first half saw both teams have their chances with neither team able to convert. The Spartans had eight total shots with six coming on goal while the Flying Dutchman fired off five total shots with four on target. The Spartans had the half's lone corner kick that came with just over a minute and a half remaining in the stanza.
• Lebanon Valley struck for the first goal just over ten minutes into the second half. Kyra Rishell found the back of the net from straight on just outside the box for the 1-0 lead. The Spartans wasted little time as they notched the equalizer just under two minutes later. Senior captain
Moriah Morton got a free kick from just outside the box and she converted that kick for her first goal of the year, tying the game at one with 32 minutes left in regulation.
• The Spartans continued to push for the go-ahead goal but LVC goalie Jocelyn Umana continued to stymie the Green and White as she registered a staggering nine second half saves.
• The Flying Dutchmen got the game winner in the 79
th minute as Lucy McGloshen scored off an assist from Darrian Berkheimer. York fired off seven shots in the final ten minutes of the game, including a shot from Morton that hit the cross bar with 2:14 left in regulation, but none of those shots found the mark as York couldn't get the equalizer.
• York outshot LVC 22-10 and held a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
