Volleyball Keeps Streaks Alive in Five-Setter with LVC

Spartans Extend Conference and Home Win Streaks to Five

YORK, Pa. - The York volleyball team kept the MAC Commonwealth and home win streaks alive with a five-set victory over Lebanon Valley on Tuesday at Wolf Gym. The Spartans won the match 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13, as they now sit one conference win away from tying the program record of six-straight wins.

Team Records
Lebanon Valley 8-7 (2-3 MACC)
York 12-6 (5-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The first set was extremely tight the entire way with neither team taking larger than a three-point lead at any point throughout the set. Abby Diehl led all players with three service aces in the set, including a crucial pair of aces which put York in the lead for good late in the set.
  • The Dutchmen would go on to take a 2-1 match lead by winning both the second and third sets by the score of 25-20. LVC hit .200-plus in both sets, despite the Spartans owning the blocking advantage through those two sets.
  • York managed to pull away to victory in the fourth due in part to a staggering .700 sideout percentage (14-for-20). A key five-point run to give York a six-point in the middle of the set proved to also make a big difference in the end. Diehl helped fuel that run with a pair of aces.
  • The York blocking effort came up big in the fifth set as the Spartans owned a 3-0 advantage in that category, led by a trio of block assists by Shannon Salo, and compiled a 9-for-13 performance in sideout opportunities. Tyler Williams led all players with four kills in the set and notched a pair late to keep York ahead by two.

Up Next
The Spartans remain home for three more matches this week, resuming play Thursday night against Lancaster Bible.
