Volleyball Sweeps Home Tri-Match

Spartans Extend Home Win Streak to Seven

YORK, Pa. - The York volleyball team extended its home win streak to seven with a pair of 3-0 victories over Neumann and Drew on Saturday at Wolf Gym.

Match One
Team Records
Neumann 10-14
York 13-6

How It Happened
  • After a 1-1 tie, the Spartans ripped off five-straight points and never surrendered the lead the rest of the way in the opening set. Tyler Williams led the Spartans with two kills and a block assist on that opening run and tied Megan Rizzi for the team lead with four kills in the first set. Williams also led all players with five digs in the set.
  • The Spartans also lead nearly wire to wire in the second set after overcoming a one-point deficit to begin the set. However, the Knights nipped at York's heels the entire way, until the Spartans finally shut the door with an 8-2 run to end the set. Briyana Shepard scored two kills on the closing run as the Spartans spread the wealth offensively in the set with a collective hitting percentage of .259. The Spartans also played opportunistically as they went 13-for-15 in sideout chances.
  • York battled to a 25-22 victory in a tightly contested third set. Neumann fought back to tie the match, 14-14, and forced another later at 15-15. A pair of Neumann attack errors fueled a four-point run to give the Spartans a 21-14 advantage, which gave York just enough breathing room to go on and clinch the set.

Match Two
Team Records
Drew 16-6
York 14-6

How It Happened
  • The match began with a very tightly contested opening set, ultimately resulting in a 25-23 York victory. With the set tied 23-23, Drew committed three-straight attack errors to hand York the win. Despite never opening up a big lead, the Spartans hit .303 in the set and were led by Megan Rizzi's five kills and .364 attack percentage.
  • The Spartans pulled off a come-from-behind victory in set two as they trailed by as much as six (13-7) in a 25-19 victory. Back-to-back service aces by Jasmine Doguin gave York its first lead (16-15) since very early in the set. York capped off the set on a 6-0 run, led by two kills from Claire Shorb.
  • The Spartans defended well in a 25-21 third-set victory as they held the Rangers to a .075 hitting percentage and just seven kills. Doguin shined for York as she posted a staggering nine kills in the set, which was the most all day by a Spartan in a single set. Tyler Williams also came up big with seven digs and Jae Fitch led the team with a pair of blocks to help York clinch the third set.
