Spartan Volleyball Drops Fourth Straight with Saturday Loss

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College volleyball squad dropped their fourth straight match, falling to Washington & Lee 3-0 on Saturday morning in Newport News, Virginia.

The Spartans have now fallen below .500 for the first time since September 24.

How It Happened

• The first set was close early as the two teams were tied at 12 through 24 points. The Generals got a Spartan service error which kick started a 13-2 run that resulted in a 25-14 set one win for Washington & Lee.

• The second set was over shortly after it started as W&L began the game on a 14-0 run. The Generals would cruise from there as they picked up a 25-7 set two victory.

• Washington & Lee would get off to another good start in set three as they led 9-4 through 13 points. The Generals would continue to slowly pull away as York couldn't get any closer than four points the remainder of the set as W&L cruised to a 25-16 set three win.

Notes:

The Spartans are now 0-2 all-time against the Generals as this is the first meeting between the two programs since 2013 …  York has been blanked in their last four matches, dropping all by identical 3-0 scores … York has lost six of their last seven after being a season best 13-9 after the Southern Virginia victory on October 5 … York hit a season-low -.080 as they have hit in the negative in three of their last four matches … York had a season-low 16 kills in the loss.

 

Up Next

The Spartans conclude their regular season on Wednesday night when they host the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is set for a 7:00 pm start in York.
