Spartan Men Earn Important Road Win at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's basketball team went on the road and picked up an 80-66 win at Frostburg State University on Wednesday evening at Bobcat Sports Arena. The win snaps a five game losing streak in Frostburg.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The Spartans could not have gotten off to a worse start as the Bobcats raced out to an 11-3 lead 4:07 into the game. Frostburg's Darren Campbell was on fire early for the Bobcats as he had nine of FSU's first 11 points. The eight-point lead would be Frostburg's largest of the game.

• The Bobcats held the lead until Jared Wagner hit a lay up at the 7:29 mark, tying the game at 26. That Wagner bucket would be a part of a 14-1 run that turned a Spartan deficit into a 32-26 lead. The Spartan lead would grow to 10 on a Jason Bady three-point play with three minutes left in the half. Blayde Reich closed out the first half scoring with a jumper to give York a 44-30 halftime lead.

• York came came out of the break and quickly pushed the lead to 16. The Bobcats trimmed the York lead to 13 twice but freshman Darin Gordon hit a lay up at the 15:39 mark to increase the lead to 17. The Bobcats would quickly answer with an eight-point spurt, trimming York's lead to nine with 13:40 left in the half.

• York quickly answered with back-to-back three pointers from Brad Wesner, pushing York's lead back to 15. The Spartans maintained the lead in double figures over the next four minutes until Frostburg fashioned a 9-0 run to trim their deficit to seven (63-56) with 8:51 left in regulation. York once again responded as they scored the next seven points to increase their lead back to 14 with over five minutes left.

• Frostburg made one final charge at York as they scored six straight points to draw to within seven at 73-66 with 1:56 left in the game. York closed out the game with seven straight points as York went 5-for-6 from the line over the final minute of the game.

Despite the win, the Bobcats hold an 18-14 advantage in the all-time series … York snaps a five game losing streak at Bobcat Arena … the Spartans are now 3-8 all-time in Frostburg … the Spartans held the CAC's leading scorer, Tyler Michael, to just one point in the game … Michael entered the game averaging 18.7 points per game … Michael went 0-for-6 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the line in his 29 minutes of action … Michael entered the game shooting 50.2% from the floor for the year (105-for-209) … the Spartans went to the line 39 times in the game, making 30 for an accuracy mark of 76.9% … the 39 attempts tied a season high (26-for-39 against St. Vincent) … the 30 made free throws were a season best for York … the Spartans have gone to the line 30 times or more in four games this year … York had the advantage on the glass for the second straight game as they held a 39-32 rebounding margin in the win … the Spartans' 11 turnovers were tied for their season low (11 @ Gettysburg and 11 vs. St. Vincent) … York has made 32 threes in their last three games … senior Brad Wesner nailed four three points for the second straight game as he matched his season high with 12 points … freshman Jared Wagner set new career highs in rebounds (9) and assists (7) … Wagner has 13 assists and just two turnovers in his last two games … sophomore Jason Bady set a new career-high with eight rebounds ….
