Volleyball Keeps Rolling with 3-0 Win over Kings

YORK, PA  – The York College volleyball squad continued to roll as the Spartans won their 11th straight match, downing King's College 3-0 in the opening round of the 2016 York College Spartan Invitational on Friday in York.

York def. King's 25-23, 26-24, 25-15 (3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The teams went back and forth early in the first set as there were four ties in the first 16 points of the match. The Spartans went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-8 lead. The Monarchs trimmed the lead to 13-11 but the Green and White would maintain the lead until the squads tied for the fifth time in the set at 20-20. The Monarchs took a 23-21 lead but York ran off the last four points of the set to take the 25-23 win.

• In set two, the Spartans sprinted out to a 6-2 lead only to have King's come storming back and push out to a 10-6 advantage courtesy of an 8-0 run. York battled back, tying the set at 11, 12, and 15 before the Monarchs pushed back to a 19-15 advantage. King's held a 23-21 lead but again the Spartans tied the set, first at 23-23 and then again at 24-24. The Green and White again won the set late with a pair of points to capture the 26-24 win.

• York rolled in the third set as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead and cruised from there to earn the 3-0 victory.

Match Notes:

The Spartans improve to 14-1, their best start since 2010 when the Spartans started the campaign with a mark of 22-1 en route to an overall record of 27-6 … the win was York's 11th 3-0 win of the year … York is now 48-12 all-time in the 11-year history of the tournament.

 

What's Next:

The Spartans return to action on Friday night at 9:30 pm as they face Marietta in the second round of the 2016 York College Volleyball Invitational.
