Box Score SALISBURY, MD – The York College field hockey squad saw their outstanding 2016 season come to a close as the second ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls used a big second half to down the Spartans 5-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday evening in Salisbury, MD. The Sea Gulls, who are the top seed in the tournament, advance to face third seeded Mary Washington who outlasted two seed Christopher Newport 3-2 in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The nationally ranked Sea Gulls were on the attack from the start of the game but the Spartan defense was up to the task early. Salisbury outshot York 12-1 in the first half but sophomore goalie Eve Hauptle was up to the task as she recored five first half saves. Senior Alexa Taylor also chipped in as she notched a defensive save for the Green and White.
• The Spartans had a goal waved off early in the second half as the official determined that the ball hit a Spartan before going in, negating what should have been the first goal of the game.
• The Sea Gulls got on the board a few minutes later as Hannah Miller hit a centering pass to Kristen Yingling who settled the pass and shot the ball inside the right post for the goal. It was her fourth of the year and came 42:12 into the game.
• Yingling's goal seemed to open the flood gates for the Gulls. Natalie Wilkinson made it 2-0 just over six minutes later as Yingling hit a pass to the middle of the circle and Wilkinson one-timed it for the goal, her tenth of the year.
• Salisbury continued their second half onslaught as Becca Rinaca scored off a rebound of her initial shot at the 52:03 mark. The goal was her 12th of the year.
• The Gulls closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes of the game. Abbey Shobe scored the fourth goal while Tara Daddio finished of the scoring for the Gulls.
• Salisbury outshot the Spartans 21-2 in the second half while they were awarded nine penalty corners in the second half.
