Hot Shooting Diplomats Down Spartans in Rotary Tip Off Championship

LANCASTER, PA – The York College men's basketball dropped their first game of the year on Saturday as a hot shooting Franklin & Marshall Diplomats squad downed York 91-71 in the championship game of the Lancaster Rotary Tip Off Tournament on Saturday in Lancaster.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The Diplomats blitzed the Spartans with eight points in the first 1:20 of the game to seize the early control of the game.

• F&M pushed the lead to 13 at 18-5 on a Jordan Phelps lay up with 12:12 left in the first half.

• The Diplomat lead grew to 20-6 before the Spartans went on a 13-4 run to cut their deficit to five at 24-19 with 7:43 left in the half. The Diplomats answered the Spartan run with a 10-0 spurt, pushing the lead back to 15 with 6:21 remaining in the opening half.

• York made a final push late in the first half as they cut the Diplomat lead to seven at 40-33 but the Dips scored six of the final eight points of the half to take a 46-35 lead to the break.

• Junior Matt Scamuffo scored the opening bucket of the second half but F&M answered with a prolonged 15-2 run to take a 61-39 lead with 13:37 remaining in the game.

• York drew to within 15 points on a dunk and a lay up from Zack Galic but F&M immediately pushed the lead back to 21 thanks to a pair of threes from Brandon Federici.

• The Diplomat lead grew to 23 before Brad Wesner ended the game with a three pointer to provide for the final 20-point spread.

Dalton Myers: 17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 1 assist

GAME NOTES

The Spartans faced the Diplomats for the first time since March 2, 2012 when the Diplomats downed the Spartans 72-50 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament … Junior Matt Scamuffo earned all-tournament team honors … Scamuffo hit his 100th career three pointer when he hit a three with 12:39 left in the second half … Scamuffo's 22 points is a season high for the junior … he now has nine career 20-plus point games … Dalton Myers now has 948 career points as he approaches 1,000 career points … the Spartans' 46.9% field goal percentage was their best mark of the young season … The Diplomats shot 57.1% from the floor, the best performance by a Spartan opponent since the 2014-15 season … the 10 three pointers by F&M are the most by a Spartan opponent since St. Mary's made 11 on January 13, 2016.
